Shipping Puppies to Ireland from the United Kingdom
Following Brexit, the movement of pets from Great Britain to Ireland (and other EU countries) requires additional documentation and procedures. Northern Ireland follows different rules under the Windsor Framework.
Post-Brexit Requirements
Dogs travelling from Great Britain to Ireland must comply with EU pet travel regulations. This means puppies need to be microchipped, vaccinated against rabies (at 12 weeks minimum), and must wait 21 days after vaccination before travel.
EU Animal Health Certificate
An EU Animal Health Certificate (AHC) must be issued by an Official Veterinarian (OV) in Great Britain within 10 days of travel. This replaces the old EU Pet Passport for GB-to-EU travel.
Tapeworm Treatment
Dogs must receive tapeworm (Echinococcus multilocularis) treatment from a veterinarian between 1 and 5 days before entering Ireland. This treatment must be documented on the AHC.
Age Implications
Because puppies cannot be vaccinated against rabies until 12 weeks of age, and must then wait 21 days, the practical minimum age for a puppy travelling from GB to Ireland is approximately 15 weeks.
