Shipping Puppies to Canada from the United States
Canada has updated its import requirements for dogs as of 2024. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) oversees the importation of animals, and compliance with all regulations is mandatory.
Age Requirements
As of the current regulations, commercial dogs being imported into Canada must be at least 8 months of age. Dogs being imported as personal pets by Canadian residents may enter at a younger age provided they have a valid rabies vaccination certificate.
Rabies Vaccination
All dogs entering Canada must have a valid rabies vaccination administered at least 28 days before arrival. The vaccination must be documented by a licensed veterinarian and include the vaccine product name, lot number, and date of administration.
Documentation
A USDA-endorsed veterinary health certificate is required for all dogs travelling from the United States to Canada. This certificate must be issued within 72 hours of travel and endorsed by a USDA-accredited veterinarian.
Microchip Requirement
All dogs must be microchipped with an ISO 11784/11785 compliant 15-digit microchip prior to rabies vaccination. The microchip number must be recorded on all health documents.
